Uniqlo-Taobao partnership in China C2C marketplace
Aliuser was told that Taobao.com will collaborate with Japanese apparel retailer Fast Retailing Co for online sales. Fast Retailing’s flagship clothing chain Uniqlo has established a word-of-mouth brand around the world – USA, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, France.
Wall Street Journal reported that Japan-based Uniqlo has striked a deal with Alibaba group to build a presence in the group”s C2C platform, Taobao.com.
Users from Taobao.com can make purchases either from branded stores or from other users via online auctions.
Fast Retailing chief Tadashi Yansai said the tie-up will allow Uniqlo to reach Taobao’s user base, currently at around 100 million registered users. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Uniqlo has 766 stores in Japan and now has a total of 71 overseas stores, 21 of which are in China. However, the clothing chain has a limited online presence in China, according to the report.
