Row between Taobao sellers and Alibaba drags on

A group of Taobao‘s suppliers plans to show up in Hong Kong Wanchai and Central to continue their protest against Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma and his company, Alibaba Group in its recent drastic service rate raise.

Taobao.com sellers flocked to Hangzhou’s office and stormed the headquarters a month ago after they were informed that their service charges are set to ncrease from RMB6,000 to RMB60,000 per year. Some of Taobao Mall sellers are also required to pay deposit up to RMB150,000.

A similar protest was seen in Hangzhou a month ago with thousands of Taobao sellers storming in front of Taobao’s office. The protest was led by an association-中國網商維權協會claimed to have 50,000 members. They shouted loudly in Chinese outside the building for “anti-monoply”, “we need to live and eat”, “we demand a fair negotiation and transparency”.  (反霸權、反壟斷、反霸權,我們要吃飯、我們要生存、我們要談判、我們要公平、我們要透明).

Taobao is China largest eCommerce online platform owned by Alibaba Group, targeting at B2C and C2C marketplaces in mainland China.
