China Trade Figures down but slightly improved in March
China’s Export in March reported US$26 billion higher than February, but the trade figure still indicated 17 percent drop in March from a year earlier, the fifth straight monthly decline.
February’s Export fell 25.7 per cent, the sharpest in a decade.
Imports fell by 25.1 percent, the fifth consecutive month to witness a double-digit decrease, widening the Chinese trade surplus to $18.6 billion from February’s $4.8 billion gap.
China’s trade-driven economy has been decelerating in recent years, with an annual growth rate of 17.8% last year compared to 35.7 per cent in 2004, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Exports of products from labor-intensive industries, including garments, bags, shoes and furniture, showed net increases, with bags and garments taking the leads with 11.7 percent and 9.9 percent, year-on-year, respectively.
