Hangzhou-based Alibaba.com (HKSE1688) joined partnership with Western Union to form a new online payment system – Western Union Pay to serve buyers from countries where they have underdeveloped banking and credit-card industries.

AliExpress will first adopt the online payment system. Both parties agreed that users buying items on AliExpress will be allowed to make cash payments through Western Union Agent locations in more than 160 countries.

AliExpress Director of Payments & Buyer Satisfaction Liu Qi said the timing of the launch with Western Union following PayPal’s exit from AliExpress in June is a coincidence. The agreement between the two companies was struck last November, months before PayPal and AliExpress decided to part ways. Quick Pay is not meant to replace PayPal because the services are aimed at different markets.

Ebay’s Paypal decided to pull out from her deal with Alibaba.com after months of cooperation. Alibaba is China leading B2B eCommerce platform.
